The So Fly Xi Chi Chapter serves the Flint Community through the campuses of

Kettering University and the University of Michigan-Flint. 

The Undergraduate chapter in Flint began with the chartering of the Iota Theta Chapter at General Motors Institute (GMI) on March 22, 1975. To become a city-wide chapter, Iota Theta was dissolved at Boule in Washington D.C. in 1984. With the increased interest in Alpha Kappa Alpha and the growing numbers of Minority attendance at the other colleges and universities in the Flint area, Xi Chi was newly chartered in the Great Lakes Region on March 23, 1985. 

Of the fifteen chartering young women, twelve were new initiates. The original three were Yvetter Hawthrone, Cassandra Jackson, and Desiree Nutter. Twelve lovely women representing General Motors Institute (now Kettering University), Detroit College of Business, and the University of Michigan-Flint, were initiated through the first line of Xi Chi. This line of women was known as GENESIS (Diane Bailey, Shamarian Brumley, Jeanine Conner, Trayce Epps, Denise Glover, Marilyn Leach, Audrey Pool, Debra Roberts, Tracey Smith, Kelley Taylor, Verona Terry, and Regina Watson.  

Continuing the legacy of service to all mankind, the Xi Chi Chapter currently includes Kettering University and the University of Michigan-Flint.  There have been 123 women initiated through the Xi Chi  Chapter to date. Annual Xi Chi programs and services include the Essence of Pearl Scholarship Ball, Study Nights (AKAdemics), Fitness Events (AKAerobics), Etiquette Workshops, MLK Day of Service, Pink Goes Red, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, North End Soup Kitchen and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
